Almost nothing works anymore. Certainly not the hackneyed clichés of contemporary music, its sound mannerisms – but neither do so many things I have (with justification, I hope) considered my own, that have kept me on track, held me together… I don’t care about creativity, that’s just picking between options. Art, as I understand it from my experience, happens when there are, more or less, no options but one: yes, this could – after all, suddenly, once
more – work. When that option manifests itself, there is a threefold state of mind through which I recognize it as such, through which it proves itself to me: joy, for sure; surprise, even embarrassment at finding myself in this new place; certainty that the option, once discovered, can’t be put back, that there’s no undoing it, that not writing would amount to violence.

Skoro nic už nejde. Omletá klišé soudobé hudby, její manýrovité zvuky, to jistě ne – ale že už ani tolik věcí, které jsem (snad oprávněné) považoval za svoje, které mě držely na stopě, jimiž jsem držel pohromadě… Kreativita mě nezajímá, to je vybírání si z možností. Umění, jak já ho ze své zkušenosti chápu, se uskutečňuje, když možnost je víceméně jediná: ano,tohle by – přece jen, najednou, ještě – šlo. Její uvědomění si provází trojí stav mysli, díky němuž ji jako takovou rozpoznávám, jímž se mi potvrzuje: radost, nepochybně; údiv až rozpaky, kam jsem se to vlastně dostal; jistota, že objevená možnost se nedá vrátit, už se stalo, nenapsat by bylo násilí.
